First European customs rail corridor from TMT to Villach

TRIESTE - The first train running on the only International Customs Rail Corridor in Europe has departed from Trieste Marine Terminal with destination the Logistik Center Austria Süd (LCA-Süd) in Villach/Fürnitz, Carinthia.

It is the first rail transportation on an International Customs Rail Corridor all over Europe, made possible by a protocol signed last year in Vienna.
Traction in Italy was carried out by Rail Cargo Carrier Italy, and in Austrian territory by Rail Cargo Austria. As pointed out by the Port Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, the aim of the corridor "is to speed up the entrance into the European Union of goods from all over the world, and to transfer via rail an increasing number of containers unloading at the port of Trieste with destination Austria and potentially to other Central European countries".
