Presentation in Munich, the Port of Trieste reference hub for Germany
TRIESTE – Over a hundred guests, including institutional representatives, operators of the sector and journalists, participated in the event for the presentation of the news of the Port of Trieste, held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Munich and Upper Bavaria on 13 November.
The meeting, organized by the Port network authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea in collaboration with the Italo-German Chamber of Commerce and the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Berlin, aimed at illustrating the new railway investments (about 110 million Euro are available) and the new development plans. For Bavarian operators and institutions, in fact, Trieste is confirmed as the privileged harbour in the Mediterranean for trading with the Far East.
The president of the Authority of Trieste, Zeno D'Agostino, underlined how, while Europe looks carefully to China and the one Belt one Road project, the port of Friuli Venezia Giulia becomes a point of reference thanks to its strategic geographic position, its natural seabed that can accommodate large ocean vessels, and especially thanks to the daily direct rail connections to Europe. A "rail port" of international relevance that is proposed as a logistic, port and industrial system for the German market.
As far as railway connections are concerned, 30% of the trains originating from the Port of Trieste are directed to Germany; in the first half of the year, 1,467 trains were performed (+12% compared to the first half of 2017). From Molo VII, run by Trieste Marine Terminal, 6 couples of trains depart for weekly roundtrips to Munich, 2 to Burghausen (serving one of the major chemical-industrial areas of Bavaria) and 2 to the new destination of Giengen, just activated by MSC. Trains to Cologne, Ludwigshafen, Karlsruhe, Duisburg and Wörth depart from the other terminals.
Lastly, President D'Agostino presented the "Trieste model", that is based on the lean governance (managed by the Authority) of a complex system that includes the industrial zone, free zones and dry ports, and that is strategic for the economy of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region as well as for the Italian Government.
