Port of Trieste, record for containers (+26.6%) and trains (+13.8%) in the first 10 months of 2017

TRIESTE - «We aim to close the year with 600,000 TEU», stated Zeno D’Agostino, president of the Trieste Port Authority. His words well describe the positive trend that is characterizing the traffic of the port of Trieste, with a new record for trains and containers.

In the first 10 months of this year there has been an increase in the total volume of traffic, with a +4.66% on the same period in 2016: 51,137,967 tonnes of cargo handled. There has also been a double-digit increase in containers (+ 26.62%), which reached 513,899 TEU and 7,147 operated trains, with a growth of 13.86% compared to the first 10 months of 2016.
«The excellent container performance is an unprecedented achievement for the port – said the President of the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Zeno D'Agostino – so much so that in October we have exceeded the 2016 total amount (486,462 TEU) and the Port-of-Trieste record for 2014 of 506,019 TEU. With such growing trends we expect to reach 600,000 TEU for the first time by the end of the year.
These volumes are not comparable to those of the Northern European ports, but they show an unprecedented dynamism and liveliness ongoing in the Trieste seaport. Beyond the result of the containers, we are a multisectoral port, with a strong railway vocation and important growth margins: in addition to the numbers, right now our strength is primarily measured on our capability to attract shipping companies and international investors interested in our logistics and industrial development».
