“MSC Paloma”, TMT receives the record size container ship

TRIESTE - The 14,000 Teu ship MSC Paloma has docked at Molo VII on December 14th, renewing the record for the largest ship ever to enter the Adriatic Sea. Until now, the record was held by MSC Luciana with its 11.600 Teu, that has been welcomed at TMT last year.
MSC Paloma was build in 2010 by the Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, measures 365 meters in length and 51 meters in width with the containers aligned in 20 rows. The command bridge has the typical “castle structure”, placed approximately in the middle of the deck. The ship can dock at the Port of Trieste thanks to its natural draft of 18 meters, wheras the recent upgrades of the terminal cranes allow efficient TMT operations on par with the most modern international ports.
The utilization of high capacity container ships on the 2M oceanic service is an evident sign of the traffic growth direction assumed by Trieste Marine Terminal. Molo VII is in fact the only pier in the Adriatic Sea with the capacity to moor two oceanic mega-ships simultaneously, which will be further improved by planned private investments. Furthermore, recent public interventions and new projects for the railroad infrastructures of the port, being financed for a total of approx. 50 million Euro, are keeping up with the growth trend seen in this traffic sector during the last decade.
