30% growth for Port of Trieste railroad traffic
A record for train displacement at Port of Trieste where, after 5604 convoys in 2015, a 30% increase is expected for 2016. Trieste confirms itself as a port of call characterized by a high number of intermodal connections, which are essential for efficient and ecological cargo displacement.
During the first two months of the year, Trieste Port Authority announces a growth in trains of approximately 30% compared to the same period in 2015. The data is therefore on par with the objectives, which expect to move over 7000 trains during 2016. The collaboration between public and private sectors is at a root of this result driven by the principal activities of the three major terminal operators of the Port: Trieste Marine Terminal (container), Gruppo Samer (RoRo) and Europa multipurpose terminal.
“Our engagement in the development of intermodal connections continues with success - explains TMT president, Fabrizio Zerbini - and today we are moving around 50 trains per week between in and out, main destinations being Germany, Hungary and Austria, in addition to Italy”.
