The Port of Trieste reports 3.68% growth in 2016

TRIESTE -  The amount of cargo moved in the Port of Trieste during 2016 shows an increase of 3.68%, with a total of 59.237.293 tons.
The positive trend doesn’t stop here, since the Port of Trieste has become the first port of Italy for trains moved (7,631 in 2016) with an increase of 27.61% compared to 2015. More in detail, the liquid bulk shows  3.56% growth with 42.756.341 tons,  the dry bulk records +22,45%, while miscellaneous goods (RO-RO traffic and  container) increases by 1.92%, reaching 14.512.968 tons. Even though the container traffic of the entire port shows a small decrease (-2,94% with 486.507 teus, but Trieste Marine Terminal is increasing by 1.26%) the number of full containers shows a 6.49% growth, proving a great stability of the traffic (437.129 teus).
“These data show that we not only are the main energy terminal  in the Mediterranean, but also one of the key points of the European intermodal transport system” states the president of the  Port Authority, Zeno D’Agostino. “Our goal is the diversification of the traffic and the optimization of the rail connections. The projects for the development of the port should focus on the logistic system, on dry port facilities  and on the rail system related. These factors are making our port and its performances always more efficient”.
