Port of Trieste: + 4,7 % in the first semester of 2016

The total volumes moved by the Port of Trieste in the first half of 2016 show an increase of 4.71% compared to 2015, with 29.436.777 Tons cargo throughput. Port of Trieste: + 4,7 % in the first semester of 2016The strong growth of the cargo moved via rail has been confirmed as well, showing 3.334 trains during the last 6 months (+17,64% compared to 2015).

The figures provided by the Port Authority register an overall growing trend: liquid bulk +4,14%, dry bulk +13.45%, miscellaneous goods +5,16% and containers +2,84% (243.326 Teus). The only light fluctuation has been registered by RO-RO traffic with a -0.80% and 152.159 semitrailers moved.
Data shows also an increase in the number of vessels operated (1192), with a +3.74% compared to 2015.
In the first 7 months of 2016 Trieste Marine Terminal moved a total of 265.018 with +1.16% compared to 2015 and a growth on the railroad transport which stands at +12.5%.
“The railroad represents our core business. A train departing from Trieste can bring a container to Munich in 11 hours. Trieste aims to become the first international rail port of Italy, with direct and daily connections with Central/ Eastern Europe and Northern Italy” declared Zeno D’Agostino, Commissioner of the Port Authority.
