TMT, container growing slightly in the first four-month period

TRIESTE – The container terminal in Molo VII, Port of Trieste, maintains its traffic levels, despite the slowdowns of the Covid-19 emergency. In the first four months of 2020, Trieste Marine Terminal recorded a 0.17% increase in moved TEU, compared to the same period of last year.

The volumes of goods moved by rail fell by 3.6% compared to the first four months of 2019. On the other hand, concerning train traffic, a 6.3% increase in volumes – relating to Germany alone – should also be noted. «It is still early to make reliable considerations about the evolution of the traffic situation in Covid-19 times. The signals from the Far East, Turkey and the East Med, main reference markets of the Port of Trieste and TMT, are fluctuating – explains Chairman Fabrizio Zerbini – and not yet defined. Specifically for its markets of reference - which are more the international than the national ones, Trieste Marine Terminal could experience a decrease in traffic of a more contained and less-lasting nature, with a hopefully faster recovery».
